How Often Should You Get Waxed?

One of the most common questions we get — from first-timers and regulars alike — is simple: how often should you actually be coming in? The answer isn't the same for everyone, but there's a science to it, and understanding it will save you money, discomfort, and frustration in the long run.

The Short Answer: Every 2 to 6 Weeks

For most people and most areas, every 4 weeks is the sweet spot. That said, the right interval depends on how fast your hair grows and which area you're waxing:

  • Face (brows, lip, chin): every 2-4 weeks
  • Underarms: every 3-4 weeks
  • Bikini and Brazilian: every 4-5 weeks
  • Legs and arms: every 4-6 weeks

The reason there's a range at all comes down to your hair growth cycle.

Why Timing Matters: The Hair Growth Cycle

Hair doesn't all grow at once — it cycles through three phases:

  • Anagen (growth phase): the hair is actively growing from the follicle
  • Catagen (transition phase): growth stops and the follicle starts to shrink
  • Telogen (resting phase): the hair is dormant and eventually sheds

Wax only removes hair effectively when it's in the anagen phase, which is why hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch long (about three weeks of growth if you've been shaving) before it can be waxed properly. At any given time, the hair on a single area of your body is in all three phases at once — which is exactly why one wax doesn't get every hair, and why consistent, regularly-timed appointments matter so much.

Why Waiting Too Long Backfires

It's tempting to stretch appointments out, but waiting too long between waxes doesn't save you anything. Hair that grows in too long between visits:

  • Is more painful to remove
  • Resets your progress toward finer, sparser regrowth

Why Coming In Too Early Doesn't Work Either

On the flip side, coming in before hair has had time to grow to that 1/4-inch minimum means the wax can't grip it. You'll pay for a service that misses most of the hair, and you'll likely be back sooner than you'd like anyway.

The Payoff of Staying Consistent

This is the part that makes waxing worth it over time: sticking to a regular schedule trains the hair follicle. With consistent waxing every 4-5 weeks, most people notice:

  • Finer, sparser regrowth over time
  • Less discomfort at each appointment
  • Faster sessions as there's simply less hair to remove
  • Fewer ingrown hairs, since hair grows back softer and thinner instead of blunt-cut

Skipping around — waxing once, shaving in between, waxing again — resets this progress every time. If you're committing to waxing, committing to the schedule is what makes it pay off.
