Okay, real talk.
Summer's over, the swimsuits are packed away, and that razor is starting to look real tempting again. Or maybe life got busy, you took a little break, and it's been a minute since you've been on a wax table.
Totally get it. But here's a secret our regulars already know: fall and winter are hands down the best time to start (or restart) your waxing routine.
Sounds backwards, right? Stick with us.
Hello, Grow Out Season
To get a good wax, your hair needs to be about a quarter inch long. Think the size of a grain of rice. In the summer, that awkward grow out stage is kind of a nightmare. Shorts, tank tops, pool days... nobody wants to deal with that.
But in the cooler months? You're living in leggings, jeans, and oversized sweaters. Nobody's seeing a thing. Let it grow, no stress, and book your appointment when it's ready.
Let's Talk Hair Growth Cycles (The Nerdy Part)
Not all of your hair grows at the same time. Every hair follows its own cycle:
- Growing: the hair is actively growing from the root.
- Resting: the hair stops growing and starts to detach.
- Shedding: the old hair falls out and a new one starts to form.
At any given moment, your hairs are scattered across all three stages. That's why after your first couple of waxes, you might spot a few strays popping up sooner than you'd like. Those hairs just weren't ready to be removed yet.
Here's the fun part. When you wax consistently every four to six weeks, your hair cycles start syncing up. More hair gets removed at the same stage, so you stay smoother for longer between appointments.
Finer, Softer, and Less of It
Shaving chops hair off at the surface, which leaves a blunt tip. That's why regrowth feels stubbly and prickly after just a day or two.
Waxing pulls hair from the root. When you stay consistent, a lot of our clients notice their hair grows back finer, softer, and way less of it over time. That means:
- Faster appointments
- Less discomfort
- Longer stretches of smooth skin
The catch? You've gotta stick with it. Skip appointments or sneak in a shave between visits and those cycles fall right back out of sync. Back to square one.
The Plan: Start Now, Be Smooth by Summer
Here's what happens when you start waxing in the fall and stay on schedule:
- Fall: Let your hair grow out under your cozy clothes and come in for your first wax.
- Winter: Keep coming in every four to six weeks. Your hair cycles start lining up.
- Spring: You've got several waxes under your belt. Hair is growing back finer and slower, and appointments are a breeze.
- Summer: Swimsuit season arrives and you're not panicking about growing it out. You're already smooth and ready to go.
Future you is gonna be SO thankful.
Bonus Reasons We're Obsessed With Winter Waxing
- Less sun exposure. Freshly waxed skin is more sensitive to the sun, and winter makes that way easier to manage.
- Less sweat. Fewer beach days and workouts in the heat mean aftercare is simpler.
- Life still happens in winter. Holiday parties, date nights, and winter getaways still deserve smooth skin.
- Cozy season self care. A standing appointment on the calendar is a little treat for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should my hair be before a wax?
About a quarter inch, roughly the size of a grain of rice. If you've been shaving, give it about two to three weeks to grow out.
How often should I get waxed?
Every four to six weeks is the sweet spot for keeping your hair cycles in sync.
Can I shave between waxing appointments?
We don't recommend it. Shaving throws off your hair growth cycles and resets your progress.
It's been years since my last wax. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Whether it's been a few months or a few years, we'll get you right back on track.
